Classification and labelling of Antimony Metal
Classification and labelling according to CLP/GHS
Antimony is currently not classified according to Annex VI of regulation (EC) 1272/2008, Index No. 051-003-00-9.
However, based on the read across from diantimony trioxide (CAS 1309-64-4) to antimony (CAS 7440-36-0) the following self-classification and labelling is proposed:
Antimony powder (Representative sample)
State/form of substance: powder
Remarks: respirable fraction
| Classification |
|---|
| Carc. 2 (H351) |
| Labelling | |
|---|---|
| Signal word | Warning |
| Hazard pictogram | GHS08: health hazard
|
| Hazard statements | H351: suspected of causing cancer by inhalation |
| Precautionary statements | P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. P281: Use personal protective equipment as required P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention. P405: Store locked up. |
Antimony massive (Representative sample)
State/form of substance: solid.
Remarks: non-respirable fraction, massive.
No classification, hence no labelling.
Antimony - composition high As
State/form of substance: massive.
Remarks: non-respirable fraction, massive.
| Classification |

Aquaric chronic 3 (H412) Signal word: none |
| Hazard statements | H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects |
|---|---|
| Precautionary statements | P501: Dispose of contents/container to: in accordance with local regulation P273: Avoid release to the environment. |

Derogation from labelling requirements for the massive antimony metal in accordance with Article 23 (d) of the CLP. |
Classification and labelling according to DSD (Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC)
Antimony is not legally classified as laid down in Annex I of Directive 67/548/EC. However, based on the read across from diantimony trioxide (CAS 1309-64-4) to antimony (CAS 7440-36-0) the following self-classification and labelling is proposed:
Antimony powder (Representative sample)
Remarks: respirable fraction
| Classification |
|---|
Carc. Cat. 3; R40 |
| Labelling | |
|---|---|
| Indication of danger | Xn - harmful |
| R-phrases | R40 - limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect |
| S-phrases | S2 - keep out of the reach of children S22 - do not breathe dust S36/37 - wear suitable protective clothing and gloves |
Antimony massive (Representative sample)
Remarks: non-respirable fraction, massive.
No classification, hence no labelling.
Antimony - composition high As
Remarks: non-respirable fraction, solid.
| Classification |
|---|
R52/53 Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. |
| R-phrases | R52/53 Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. |
